A Little Craziness and a Lot of Prep

Since we are a group of 32 people, we have divided into two teams of 16 so that we can serve in more places and do more ministry while we are here. Team A is being led by Fred Steinbach and Team B (which might stand for best or blessed or perhaps Brauer) is being led by Tom Brauer.

One of the requirements for going on a mission trip is flexibility. Team B experienced that right away today. This morning both teams were scheduled to worship in the churches that we are going to serve in on Monday and Tuesday. Team A was able to accomplish that without difficulty. However, after driving about an hour to the northwest side of the city, Team B discovered that the church service we thought was planned for 10:00 am was actually going to be at 5:00 pm. Hmmm, what to do? Our Honduran Coordinator Mario started making phone calls and searching online for the times of other church services and we finally resolved to drive back up El Hatillo to the Centro Cristiano Iglesia (CCI) which is about a five-minute walk from the Mission House.

CCI is led by Pastora Peggy Vilorio who is on the Board of Directors of WGO. She gave a wonderful sermon on the marks of a disciple of Christ, which one of our team members remarked was a message just for us.

After their church service, Team A had the traditional photo op at Parque d'Espana and then lunched at El Patio. Team B opted not to drive back down the mountain and instead walked to the Pomodora, a lovely pizza restaurant with outdoor seating. After that we walked back to the Mission House where lots of preparations were underway.

Dr. Todd coordinated the sorting and organization of eyeglasses. Dr. Kathy prepped the medical team on what to expect at the brigade. The team loaded the supplies on the truck, and Fred and Tom put together the workstation assignments for all our team members.

Later in the afternoon, Bill Wealthall gave us some insights into the differences between Honduran and North American culture and then, after dinner, he gave us an overview of the process of doing evangelism.

Well, tomorrow we finally get started at the medical brigade. One team member fell ill with some stomach problems this afternoon. So please pray for our health, our flexibility, and our usability in God's hands.

Thanks!
