We had a great day today. After a blustery night the weather turned absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed blue skies and a sunny day all day.
Our devotional theme for the week is the role of rock in the Bible, which might sound a little strange at first, but if you think about it there are a lot of references to rocks in many Bible stories. Tom led this morning's devotion, which was about the memorial stones set up after the Israelites crossed the Jordan River.
Church was rockin' at the Iglesia de la Profecia way on the other side of town from the Mission House. We were warmly welcomed and Fred shared a few words with the congregation at the beginning of the service. The young women of the church provided a dance ensemble while the worship band led us all in song. Then the pastor gave a sermon about using the resources at your disposal to serve in God's kingdom, which was based on the feeding of the 5,000. There is a very genuine and humble spirit in the church.
A visit to the Plaza de Espana provided a photo opp as well as an impromptu shopping experience before we headed to El Patio for the usual wonderful lunch fare.
Next, we headed back to the Mission House and spent the afternoon preparing for the medical outreach tomorrow. We did a lot of organizing of the eyeglasses that we brought as well as the eyeglasses in the storage room downstairs. The medical professionals were briefed on how things should work this week. And finally, after dinner we watched the premiere of a cross-cultural training video and then received evangelism training from Bill Wealthall, (Mission House host along with his wife Pam.)
This evening people are playing some games in the dining room, catching up on their journals and even watching a little football courtesy of Bill and Pam.
